For our next installment of house cleaning hacks, we will focus on techniques you can use to quickly and thoroughly clean the bathroom. The bathroom is, unsurprisingly, one of the dirtiest and most germ-filled places in the home, yet it is also one of the most pesky rooms to clean. Below we present some of Fresh Tech Maid's proven house cleaning hacks for deep cleaning the bathroom, focusing on two main principles.
Use Vinegar!
Last week we discussed the effects that vinegar can have on tough, caked-on grime. In case you missed it, we now want to reiterate this statement! Vinegar works wonders on various bathroom germ areas such as the shower head or faucet handles. Simply fill a plastic baggie with vinegar and secure it to the affected areas with a rubber band. Let it soak for an hour or two, and the dirt will come off like magic!
Get in the Cracks
Deep cleaning the bathroom is not for the faint of heart, as it can get pretty gross if you do not regularly do a thorough deep clean. Wiping down the countertop and toilet surface is all well and good, but germs and dirt can accumulate in harder to reach areas. Thankfully, most of these areas require the same cleaning products and tools so you can tackle them in one go.Ever notice the area underneath your sliding shower door or the cracks in your windowsill? These areas are breeding grounds for germs and mold and must be cleaned at least twice per year. To get at them, simply use an old toothbrush, a butter knife, and your trusty vinegar cleaning solution. Pour a small amount of the vinegar into the area you are focusing on and have at it with the agitation tools. Some pretty nasty things can be scraped out, so make sure you are wearing gloves and an outfit you don’t mind getting dirty. You can wipe away or vacuum the debris that is removed.
Unfortunately, the toilet also has many cracks and crevices in which grime can accumulate. This is especially the case if you live in a home with young boys (or older ones!) who don’t have the best aim all the time. The only way to deal with this is to get a screwdriver and take off the toilet seat, then get in there with your vinegar and toothbrush. It may be gross, but your family will thank you!
Another area that can get dusty and dirty is the ceiling vent. You probably don’t think about the ceiling vent too much, but a dirty vent blows dirty air all over the bathroom! To fix this issue, make sure you stand on a sturdy stool or ladder, and scrape out all the dust with your toothbrush and butter knife. You can also unscrew the cover of the vent if you really want to do a thorough job.
We hope that these bathroom cleaning hacks will help you succeed in a quicker and more thorough deep clean of your bathroom. Though it can be a little gross, having a sparkling clean bathroom is worth the trouble!
